The School

The small private language school has an excellent central location close to the main sights. The school is at the top of the medieval quarter near the university and the old city port, the so called “porto antico”, a very suggestive marine area restored by architect Renzo Piano, where quays and piers stand together with ancient buildings of the VII century perfectly restored, the biggest Aquarium of Europe and the panoramic lift showing Genoa from all its visual angles.
It is on the fourth floor of a restored seventeeth century palazzo, Palazzo Ponzone, located in the University district and complete with a spiral liberty style staircase.
The school, specialized in organizing study holidays and short – medium – long term courses in Italian language, offers: 4 wide classrooms, reception for a warm typical Italian welcome, 2 free internet points, a common space with library, daily newspapers and magazines, for free reading, coffee and cold drink machine, Information material on Genoa and Liguria, student card, to obtain reduction in some bars, restaurants, shops, sell point of tickets to Aquarium, of museum cards with 50% reduction, tickets for boat trips along the beautiful marine gulf (Portofino, Cinque Terre, Sanremo)

Methodology

The school is staffed by highly qualified mother-tongue instructors.
Lessons are conducted using the direct/communicative method trough the use of materials developed by the school staff and drawn by authentic materials, so that the student is presented with situations from daily life. That situation is then analysed in terms of grammar and of the linguistic functions it raises.
Lessons are also supported by learning activities such as games, role-playing and audio-visual materials.
Research into new teaching methods and constant efforts to keep the personnel up to date allow to produce valid materials and to satisfy the changing demands of the market.
 

Courses

Basically there are 3 kinds of Italian language courses, available for all 5 levels of language skills:
-Standard Italian language and culture, which is a group course lasting minimum 1 weeks and taking 20 lessons per week;
-One-To-One, which might take the necessary and required lessons per week while minimum stay is 1 week,
-Intensive course, which consists of 20 group and 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 additional individual lessons per week.
The standard and intensive courses offered by the school broadly respond to a lot of the necessities that students encounter during the learning of a foreign language. The courses teach how to face daily situations, providing essential lexical and grammatical bases and more and more complex in relationship to the degree and level of faced study.
Classes, organized in small groups of min 3 and max 8 students, are multicultural, which help students, even of the lowest level, to speak Italian for common comprehension.
Courses for special purposes are available:
-Italian & Cooking (all levels)
-Business Italian (Intermediate and over)
-Italian and Diving (Intermediate and over; beginners English speaking accepted as well)

 

Courses’ schedule :

General Rules:

Schedule: from 09:10 up to 13:00 or from 14:10 up to 18:00 from Monday to Friday (**)

Length group lesson – 55 minutes - Length individual lesson – 60 minutes.

(*) All courses combining group + individual require minimum frequency of 2 weeks 

(**) the choice between morning/afternoon is related to the numbers of courses opened.

At the end of the course, with the minimum frequency of the 80% of the lessons, the student will receive a certificate of attendance with the final mark after the small final exam (written and oral).

 If the minimum number of participants to a course is not reached, the course will be activated however. Nevertheless the direction reserves the right to decrease the number of times of lesson in relationship to the present participants, in consideration of the most greater intensity of the lessons in so small groups: 

1 student = 2 hours                                                                                       2 students = 3 hours

Compulsory for all courses

The entrance fee is valid 12 months and includes:

Didactical service: entrance test, didactical material and book of the school, one hour per weeks free tutoring, furnished library, certificate of attendance at the end of the course.

Welcome and assistance: welcome cocktail, furnished recreational area, TV and VHS at disposal in the afternoon, internet point free, welcome kit (manual on Genoa, city map etc.) newspaper and magazines at disposal, student’s card “A door to Italy”.

Accommodation – Description & prices

For a confortable stay in Genova, a wide range of accommodation is available in the school area and in general all over the town, also closer to the seaside. All the accommodation are carefully selected.

Bed & Breakfast

This last solution offers the convenience of living in a house, in an intimate and pleasant environment, the possibility to speak Italian outside of the school and the possibility to meet other guests.

Due to their structure and home-style organization, B & Bs don't have the same quality standards of a hotel. ,Prices are different due to location, house characteristics, building, maximum number of guests, comforts available, furniture.

Since it is an apartment the bathroom is often with a bath shared with the landlords or with the other guests.

The price generally includes the use of the kitchen for dinner (but the food is paid and provided by the guest himself).

Family stay (paying guest)

The student will have the possibility to experience all aspects of the domestic Italian lifestyle. This is an excellent solution for young people and for anyone who desires to improve their use of Italian language by practicing it in a daily real-life setting. The bathroom is shared with the owners. Private room with TV. Ideal for medium-long stay. Minimum stay of 1 week
